Happy summer SJC Network!
I'm writing to invite all of you to join a virtual conversation on July 25th, 3-4pm EST, in which we will discuss a new, five-piece toolkit from Activating Change.
Despite the fact that the majority of people in prisons and jails have at least one disability, disability and Deaf organizations have not traditionally been included in efforts to advance local criminal legal reforms. Activating Change's new toolkit offers practical guidance for shifting this trend and for forming partnerships with an essential but overlooked constituency – the disability and Deaf community.
On the 25th, we will walk you through how this toolkit can enhance your local criminal justice reform efforts, including:
- Common disability and Deaf organizations that can lend their support and expertise to your initiatives;
- How to create accessible materials and events so that everyone can fully participate in your partnerships and reform efforts; and
- Best-practices for forming equitable, effective, and sustainable partnerships with disability and Deaf organizations and communities.
This resource and event are designed for anyone working to advance criminal justice reform - including community advocates and organizers, those in the nonprofit space, service providers, and people who work within the system itself. Registration closes on Friday, July 19th.
As an SJC Strategic Ally, we are here to help sites and fellow TA providers implement these practices in your reform work. You can always get in touch with me at kkall@activatingchange.org for technical assistance and additional resources.
