Innovations in Reducing the Use of Jail Due to Violations of Probation (Spring 2023)

People held in jail as a result of responses to probation violations is a significant driver of the jail population in many jurisdictions. This session is an opportunity to learn from innovative changes to practice undertaken to reduce the use of jail as a response to probation violations while supporting supervision success. It will spotlight St. Louis County’s expedited probation violation resolution process; Pima County’s warrant resolution pilot; and Georgia’s Probation Options Management Act (POM) administrative process for resolving probation violations without jails.
