PRI is pleased to release a new SJC resource, Creating Data-Informed Strategies to Understand the Needs of People in Your Jail.

This comprehensive resource was developed based on our work with SJC sites and includes survey data from our behavioral health-focused expansion group of 17 sites, the IMPACT Network.

While jails typically collect many data points, including through jail management systems and personal health care records, this resource focuses on aggregated, non-identifying health information that can be analyzed to understand the needs and trends of people incarcerated within your local jails. Each jail's population needs impact its operational costs, diversion opportunities, health care delivery, jail and community provider collaboration, and reentry services.

Within this resource, we outline where to start to develop more robust jail data collection strategies, as well as an array of specific indicators for data collection around mental health, suicide/self-harm risk, substance use disorders, racial and other disparity data, disabilities, competence to stand trial, frequent jail contact, and other areas.

Access the resource here: Creating Data-Informed Strategies to Understand the Needs of People in Your Jail - Policy Research Associates (prainc.com)

Feel free to share this resource and post any feedback or questions here or send them to @Regi Huerter or myself!
