Understanding CESSA: A Historic Effort to Improve Support for people during a Mental Health Crisis

When:  Jul 20, 2022 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM (CT)
The CESSA Act is historic Illinois legislation that requires 911 to coordinate with mobile mental health response systems being developed by the Illinois Division of Mental Health.

After years of grassroots organizing efforts led by Access Living’s Advance Your Leadership Power (AYLP) program to fight the criminalization of people who experience mental health crisis, the state of Illinois is now beginning concrete steps to develop a robust alternative response system that prioritizes the use of trained mental health professionals to help people going through crisis, rather than law enforcement officials.

This webinar will take you through a in depth look at the inspiration behind the law, the process to getting it passed, the current status of implementation, and what might be needed to ensure success in the future.
