[VIRTUAL] Prosecutors Driving Change: A Decade of Reducing Jail and Advancing Justice

When:  Nov 20, 2025 from 02:00 PM to 03:00 PM (ET)

For the past decade, the MacArthur Foundation’s Safety and Justice Challenge has worked with cities, counties, and states to reduce jail populations while improving fairness in the justice system. The Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA) has supported prosecutors throughout this work by creating spaces to share innovative practices that prevent crime and ensure justice.

This webinar will highlight the legacy and impact of the Safety and Justice Challenge from the perspective of prosecutors who participated in the initiative. They will discuss the strategies that proved most effective, the challenges that emerged, and the policies that continue to shape their offices today. In addition to these first-hand accounts, a researcher will share data on national trends and lasting impacts of the Challenge, giving participants both the big picture and practical lessons to inform their own work.

Speakers:

  • NeAngela Dixon, Program Officer, Criminal Justice, MacArthur Foundation
  • Justin Bingham, City Prosecutor, Spokane, WA
  • Lara Roetzel, State’s Attorney, Pennington County, SD
  • Benjamin Estep, Research Project Director, CUNY Institute for State & Local Governance
