To support health care providers during the COVID-19 public health emergency, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued a variety of guidance on the application and enforcement of the federal laws and regulations related to patient confidentiality. HHS announced it will not enforce certain provisions of HIPAA during this period and it released COVID-19 specific guidance on permitted disclosures under both HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2. Congress included significant amendments to these federal confidentiality laws and regulations in the recently signed CARES Act.#COVID19#BehavioralHealth
