Disability is all around us, but can you see it? Along with commonly and easily recognized disabilities that you may know such as using a wheelchair or being blind, there are many other disabilities such as allergies, asthma, cancer, addictions which are generally considered health conditions. Many of us will experience disability in our lifetimes. Despite that, the disability lens and the priorities of the disabled community tend to be left out of conversations about system reform, particularly in the criminal justice system. This webinar is designed to help you fine tune your insight into systemic issues related to the disability experience, raise issues that are under-discussed, increase your competency in working with people with disabilities, identify room for change, and foster conversations to create better solutions. Access Living’s aim is to increase self-advocacy and community advocacy, foster the ability of criminal justice system stakeholders to help the police, courts, and jails improve the policy & practices, and to reduce incarceration rates of disabled people. Later in May, Access Living will launch a national disability working group to focus on reducing jail incarceration of persons with disabilities. Panelists for the Webinar were:Amber Smock, Access LivingJanet Horne, Access LivingAmanda Antholt, Equip for Equality
