The Bail Project is proud to release Beyond Bail: A National Survey of Pretrial Justice Reform in the United States, a first-of-its-kind comprehensive report documenting legislative and policy changes that have reshaped pretrial practices across the country.

Beyond Bail documents reforms from 36 jurisdictions, including states and localities that have eliminated or restricted cash bail and adopted policies like presumption of release and strengthened due process protections. These changes show that reform is not only possible but happening across the country, with growing public and political support.

Beyond Bail also provides a roadmap for future pretrial justice reforms, laying out practical steps for policymakers to follow in order to create a more humane, effective, and fair system.By continuing to advocate for reform and building on the momentum seen across the country, we can eliminate wealth-based detention and create a justice system that works for everyone.
