Hi all,
In October 2023, the Minnesota Justice Research Center (MNJRC) began a study of pretrial practices in Minnesota at the request of the Minnesota Legislature. Last week, we submitted a report with our preliminary findings and policy recommendations that we find would improve Minnesotans' understanding of our pretrial system and set the stage for our continued work. The focus of this report is pretrial data transparency and accessibility.
I am attaching the report here. You can also find it at our website.
Looking forward, our final report (due February 2025), will expand on our findings in this report by taking a deep dive into best practices here and nation-wide. Our findings will incorporate community perspectives and Minnesota-specific legal analysis, and address issues related to public safety, court appearance, socioeconomic and racial equity, and any other topic relevant to our evaluation of Minnesota's pretrial system.
Please feel free to share this with your networks, and don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments, partnerships, etc.
Best,
