Hi friends,

As Thanksgiving approaches, governors and the President are gearing up to make their annual displays of clemency - to turkeys, rather than to those caught up in our draconian system of mass incarceration.

The Prison Policy Initiative just released a briefing urging outgoing executives to use their clemency powers for human beings, not just birds - and particularly for people on death row. We highlight President Biden, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Missouri Governor Mike Parson, and Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, all of whom have a slim opportunity to commute or forgive death sentences before they leave office.
