Last week, MFJ CEO Amy Bach published an op-ed in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle that spotlights the importance of local communities taking over the responsibility of initiatives like crime reduction instead of a federalized police presence. In the piece, she argues for the critical advantage of local criminal justice data being at the heart of reform efforts spearheaded by people who live and work…locally. Rochester, NY, is a great example of this approach-the city is now one of the most transparent in the country and has partnered with community groups to set policy and pursue change based on shared data.
