Panel Presentation - Criminal Justice Responses and Alternatives for the Care and Treatment of People with Opioid Use Disorder
Incarcerated people are 40 to 129 times as likely to die from a drug overdose compared to the general public within the two weeks following their release. Criminal justice and health care partners can save lives by keeping people out of jail through coordinated street outreach and deflection, ensuring justice-impacted people in the community and in jail receive MAT when medically indicated, and creating a solid continuum of care from jail to community upon reentry. using alternatives to detention for people with opioid use disorder who have low level charges. Panelists will share their perspectives on what’s working in Philadelphia, Minnehaha, and San Francisco to care for people suffering from opioid use disorder
