The power of persuasion starts well before making an ask. An individual needs to build trust, engage necessary stakeholders, and arm themselves with qualitative and quantitative data. Using this information to create a smart, well-vetted solution is a key, but it also isn’t enough. For SJC sites to sustain their criminal justice change efforts they also need the support of policymakers, who at times can be skeptical of change. This session will equip attendees with the tools to create smart solutions on the front end and a compelling case for implementation to policymakers on the back end. We will draw upon research and experiences that provide insight into how to craft good policies and programs and how to create persuasive messaging that is most likely to resonate with moderate-left and center-right policymakers who are often critical to reaching consensus on these issues.
