Happy New Year SJC Community,

As we kick off another impactful year, the SJC PET Network is proud to share the progress, resources, and innovations that supported meaningful front-end transformation work in pretrial justice in 2024. Thank you for your continued engagement and commitment to equity, reducing jail reliance, and supporting individuals navigating the pretrial process.

Here are some valuable resources to enrich your work and reflect on the strides made this year:

1. PET Network Webinar Recording Playlist: Explore all the PET Network webinar recordings from 2024 and previous years, highlighting innovative strategies, challenges, and solutions from SJC sites.
2. Pretrial Innovations Site Spotlights: This handout offers a snapshot of innovative approaches from Charleston County’s Most Visible Persons Program and the NYC Criminal Justice Agency’s Queens Supervised Release Program, both aimed at supporting individuals most likely to miss court. Additionally, it features successful pretrial release options and supports shared by the San Francisco Pretrial Diversion Project and Pima County's Transition Center. Contact information for each program and hyperlinks to the corresponding PET Network webinar recordings can be found at the end.
3. Webinar Slide Decks: Slide decks from the 2024 PET Network webinars are attached below. For slide decks from 2022 or 2023 recorded sessions, please reach out to Kimberly Richards at krichards@justicesystempartners.org.
4. Evaluating the Evidence Handouts: These handouts provide background, research, and analysis on four common strategies used to engage individuals during the pretrial stage. Each document assesses the effectiveness, challenges, and equity considerations of these strategies:
   1. Automated Court Reminder Systems
   2. EM/GPS Monitoring
   3. Pretrial Supervision
   4. Urinalysis Testing
5. Equity Through Action Tool: This resource provides practical steps and considerations for integrating equity into decision-making processes. It offers a structured approach to ensure equity is embedded from the outset of planning and implementation, emphasizing inclusive practices, diverse decision-makers, and community engagement.
6. Taking an Equity Lens to  Pretrial Compliance Reporting: This resource guides pretrial supervision officers on reporting compliance and noncompliance to the court through an equity-focused, strength-based approach. It covers the purpose of pretrial supervision, research on noncompliance, and historical reporting practices. The document provides key questions to help officers highlight individual and systemic barriers, as well as successes, ensuring courts receive a balanced and fair perspective.
