APA recently met with Black Voters Matter to learn about their Warrant Clinic and we wanted to share this information with you.
The Warrant Clinic is community grassroots organizing program to help traffic, misdemeanor and potentially lower-level felony defendants who have failure to appear warrants, orders for arrest (OFAs) or other outstanding warrants or attachments. The Warrant Clinic provides an opportunity for defendants to remove their arrest warrants, return to their case at the point they left it, and a chance to achieve a resolution of their case. It also provides an opportunity to build trust between the community and the court while shortening the backlog of failure to appear warrants.
Attached please find a Warrant Clinic Summary and a slide deck from Black Voters Matter about their work. If you're interested in learning more about this work, please reach out to me and I will connect you with our contact at Black Voters Matter.
Best,
Aviva
