Transforming how local justice systems think about and use jails is among the most complex challenges facing jurisdictions. A new report from Justice System Partners, supported by the MacArthur Foundation’s Safety and Justice Challenge (SJC), elevates the leadership approaches that have driven reform across 7 SJC sites.
Drawing from 10 years data and interviews with 25 changemakers, the report highlights that transformation is:
o 🔀 Non-linear, requiring resilience and adaptability to continually learn and persevere through challenges.
o 🤝 Relationship-driven and enabled by trust formed from authentic collaboration with traditionally siloed stakeholders and communities.
o ♻️ Sustained by infrastructure that ensures progress outlasts evolving circumstances and shifts in personnel.
